Which Karhunkierros distance feels right for you? Choose from five different days on the trails, from the hills of Ruka to the Oulanka river valley. Think about how far you want to go and what kind of terrain you enjoy. Then check the start location, cut-off times and mandatory gear for your distance. The kilometres in the distance name are not an exact measurement of the route.

The event takes place on 28–29 May 2027. Read the registration information. Registration opens on 13 October 2026 at 18:00 Finnish time.

166 km – the longest Karhunkierros

From Ruka to Napapiiri and back. This is a long journey: the trails, climbs and overnight running call for planning and care with your gear.

Who might enjoy it: You, if you already have ultradistance experience and want to plan your fuelling and progress through the night.

Start: Ruka pedestrian village. Finish: Ruka pedestrian village. Minimum age: you must turn at least 18 during the event year.

83 km – from Napapiiri to Ruka

From Hautajärvi, follow the Oulanka river valley and forest trails towards the hills of Ruka. This long distance calls for preparation for changing weather and the stretches between aid stations.

Who might enjoy it: You, if long trail runs are already familiar and you want to take the next step on Karhunkierros.

Start: Napapiiri, Hautajärvi. Finish: Ruka pedestrian village. Minimum age: you must turn at least 18 during the event year.

55 km – from Oulanka to Ruka

From Oulanka Visitor Centre, follow forests and hills to Ruka. There is plenty to see, and a long day on the trails rewards a patient approach to your pace.

Who might enjoy it: You, if you have spent long days on trails and want to try your first longer Karhunkierros distance.

Start: Oulanka Visitor Centre. Finish: Ruka pedestrian village. Minimum age: you must turn at least 18 during the event year.

34 km – from Juuma to Ruka

From Juuma to Ruka, follow forest trails through river canyon scenery and across suspension bridges. Roots, rocks and climbs keep the day varied.

Who might enjoy it: You, if you have some trail experience and want a long, varied day on Karhunkierros.

Start: Juuma village. Finish: Ruka pedestrian village. Minimum age: you must turn at least 15 during the event year.

Explore the 34 km

13 km – the hills of Ruka

Enjoy climbs, descents and views on a shorter route around Ruka. The route is hilly, so allow time to take it steadily too.

Who might enjoy it: You, if you want to try a trail running event for the first time, or if you are an experienced trail runner looking for a shorter distance. You can go at your own pace.
