From Ruka to Napapiiri and back, follow the Karhunkierros trails on a long journey. Prepare for climbs, overnight running and changing weather. Plan the stretches between aid stations and carry your mandatory gear throughout.

Mandatory gear – 166 km
Carry the mandatory gear for your distance from start to finish.
- Mobile phone, protected from water
- Self-adhesive support bandage, packed waterproof (at least 6 cm × 100 cm)
- Cup
- Spoon
- Water bottle or hydration bladder, with a capacity of at least 1 l
- Emergency blanket
- Whistle
- Emergency food providing at least 250 kcal for emergencies
- Headtorch or other emergency light
- Waterproof jacket with a hood (waterproof rating of at least 10,000 mm)
- Gloves
Recommended gear
- Running poles, if you use them. Carry your poles for the whole distance; you must not leave them at an aid station or put them in a drop bag.
- A power bank for your phone; make sure the battery lasts until the finish.

Choose a broad start window when you register. When you are ready at the start area, follow the staff’s instructions and make your way to the start. Your timing begins when you actually set off on the route.
Start and finish
The start and finish are in Ruka pedestrian village. You do not need a bus from Ruka to the start for this distance. You can send a drop bag to Oulanka and Hautajärvi. Minimum age: you must turn at least 18 during the event year.

Cut-off times – 166 km
Cut-off times are measured from the moment you actually set off on the route.
Leave the Napapiiri aid station no later than 16 hours after your start.
On the return leg, leave the Oulanka aid station no later than 22 hours after your start.
Leave the Konttainen aid station no later than 33 hours after your start.
Reach the finish no later than 36 hours after your start.
